Conduct an active business and media enterprise that includes a 30-minute television show, a 3-minute "DownEast Gardener" television segment, weekly garden newspaper columns, pesticide safety recertification education programs, and agronomic/horticulture consulting. Provide expert testimony on marijuana biology and culture.

    Grants and Contracts (1996 to 2001)

    Wildlife Enhancement Grant, $75,000.00, 2007.

    Planned and assisted with the purchase of Airlie Gardens ($10,500,000.00) for New Hanover County (1999).

    Facilitated funding of Airlie Gardens purchase with a $6,000,000.00 grant from North Carolina Clean Water Trust to New Hanover County with $2,000,000.00 for purchase of Airlie Gardens and remainder to fund mitigation projects to clean estuarine waters (with Dave Weaver, Patrick Lowe, and Camilla Herlevich). 1999 to 2004.

    Directed the Nutrition Education Center renovation in New Hanover County Extension Complex with $40,000.00 funding from Cape Fear Memorial Foundation (with Brenda Carter). 1998 to 1999.

    Directed construction of Hutaff Visitor Center at the New Hanover County Extension Complex and facilitated the private funding of $162,000.00 of the building. 1998.

    Co-founded the Cape Fear Agricultural Park Incorporated (1998), which is dedicated to the development of a Farmers Market, Fairground, and Equine Center in southeast North Carolina. Initiated efforts that resulted in funding of $40,000 from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture to continue and expand the organizations mission.

    Supervised and coordinated over $250,000.00 funding to support the New Hanover County Extension Arboretum Foundation’s annual operating and capital budget. 1996 to present.

    Awarded a $100,000.00 grant by Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment to fund R.I.S.E. Horticulture/Turfgrass Tour of America by County Extension Agents. 1997 to 2000.

    Established and awarded a Pesticide Container Recycling Grant for New Hanover County, $12,500 from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture - Pesticide Division. 1998.

    Established Coastal Environmental Demonstration House Project for New Hanover County Extension Arboretum and assisted to obtain $20,000.00 funding from the North Carolina Department of Energy (with Dianne Gatewood). 1999.
